Growing...

Since the completion of this class our school division immersed itself into implementing Blended Learning in all of our classrooms.  In order to support the teachers in our schools with this learning style, I was able to put my multimedia skills to work.  I have been helping teachers create their own instructional videos using a variety of tools such as Chatter Pix, IMovie, Office Mix, See Saw, etc.  In addition we have been creating personalized playlists using PowerPoint, Publisher, and SMART Notebook.  Even my extracurricular passion of directing drama plays has been impacted by this class. We now use audacity regularly to make the perfect sound cues for our plays.  On a personal note, our daughter who is 11 now has embarked on a digital creative path where she is creating her own products and marketing them on Youtube. It has been so much fun to teach her these skills and watch her explore and expand her creative mind!

Insights & Connections

When I first registered for this class, I was so excited! I enjoy being creative and working through tasks and challenges to create products however this class turned out to be my most challenging by far!  When I started my ETAD journey, I sure would not have called myself a tech savy girl however after three years as a learning coach with a fabulous team of colleagues who planted seeds, I began to take risks and make my roots grow.  However, my solid foundation was definitely not ready for this class.  In addition I had two major roadblocks that were difficult to overcome. The first was that in July and August our family spends time at our lake of which the wifi is very limited and not reliable. Secondly, I found the assignments hard to complete because I wanted to make them applicable to my role as teacher however during the summer months when everyone is on vacations and schools are being cleaned I had to chose more personal topics. The majority of my assignments for this class included my personal life; our home town, my children, our home and our lake!  I was very thankful for the colleagues in my class as we were all very supportive and we ....I learned a lot from them. Needless to say my digital perseverance and patience with multimedia technologies is much stronger now! I can honestly say that I use the skills from this class everyday of my current role.
