Growing...

I have always been engaged in creative and critical thinking and this class gave me the skills to become more strategic and purposeful in my designing. When I first began this class, I wasn't expecting so much of the Instructional Design process to be so in depth of the needs and wants of the projects. Now, three years later, I am an Instructional designer at a distance learning school and I spent the majority of my time in the A and D of the ADDIE model.  I have also learned how vital it is to work with a team when designing.  When I was taking this class, I had a SME for grade 1 as well as a SME for digital citizenship.  I learned how crucial it is to have the right people on the team to make a project successful.  Currently at my work, we are working together to design our own distance learning design model.  There are a variety of people on this team to ensure that our model meets the needs and wants of our school. Our team consists of a marketing director, a school principal ( ETAD grad), a User Interface Designer, an Edtech coach, and a variety of online teachers who vary in teaching subject areas and experience.

Insights & Connections

This was my first class as a Masters Student and I was terrified. I remember vividly my first forum post. I was incredibly nervous to hit the submit button. Even learning a new management system was a hurdle I needed to overcome. As I settled into a routine of my new life as an online scholar, I began to consistently relate my learning to my career. For this class I was supporting schools with Digital Citizenship skills so I focused my class projects on this topic. I used my new ETAD 873 skills to create an online prototype for Grade 1 Digital Citizenship skills.
